Actually this is for yesterday ... Super Bowl Sunday. I was so glad the Colts won. Tony Dungy deserved it. Anyway, I wrote four chapters that day and didn't have time to get to the blog.
In Chapter 19, Erica participates in the sleepover. The girls end up discussing their dysfunctional likenesses (they discover they all live in single parent households). After each girl tells of her real life situation, Erica tells the others that she’s a trans-sexual, a person whose brain is a different gender than their body. It crashes the party.
In Chapter 20, the next night, Mr. Aleen appears and reprimands Erica for not trying to blend in as a girl at the sleepover. He gives her one more chance. She’s to ask the principal’s son, Jared, the boy with the crush on her, out on a date.
In Chapter 21, the next morning has come and Erica’s mother enters Erica’s room and treats her like a daughter. She rebels and gets rid of her mother. Then her pesky brother teases her. When she drives him away, she ponders the coming date with certain hopelessness.
In Chapter 22, at her new school, Erica waits after the last bell for Jared to show up. She gets up the courage to ask him to go to the movies. He accepts. Meredith is there and sees some boys from the window taking a kitten into the woods. She gets very emotional and concerned, but Jared and Erica just wonder what the big deal is.
